چکیده

It has been shown recently that stimulated Raman radiation can be built up in the off-axis direction using a resonator the axis of which is rotated from the axis of the ruby laser resonator.'S3 The stimulated Brillouin scattering which has been found by Chiao, Townes, and Stoicheff4 shows a characteristic which is different from that of the stimulated Raman scatterings: the stimulated Brillouin scattering was observed even in the direction perpendicular to the incident laser beam when the active medium was placed outside the ruby laser resonator. Thus it is interesting to investigate the possibility of building up the stimulated Brillouin radiation in the off-axis resonator. The spectrum of the output of the off-axis resonator was studied with the experimental arrangement shown in Fig. 1. The lens, iris, and FabryPerot interferometer were removed in order to investigate the far field pattern of each component. Benzene and carbon disulfide were chosen as typical and exceptional liquid samples, respectively. The results are shown in Fig. 2. When the carbon disulfide cell was inserted in the off-axis resonator, the coherent radiation at approximately the same wave length as the incident laser beam was found to be built up at an exciting power slightly higher than the threshold exciting power of the first stimulated Raman Stokes line. The angular divergence was measured to be a few milliradians, which was the

Comprehensive Theoretical Study on Threshold Power of Stimulated Brillouin Scattering in Single-Mode Fibers

We have investigated and developed a theoretical approach to explore stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) phenomena in single mode fiber. SBS happening threshold power condition has been studied in terms of fiber parameters and input pump power. To assess threshold power precisely, the pump depletion effect and fiber loss has been included by employing 1% criterion. The threshold exponential g...

Thermal Effects Study on Stimulated Brillouin Light Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fiber

we investigate the temperature-dependences of the Brillouin frequency shift in three different kind of single-mode fibers using a heterodyne method for sensing temperature. Positive dependences coefficients of 0.77, 0.56 and 1.45MHz/0C are demonstrated for 25 km long single-mode fiber, 10 km long non-zero dispersion shifted fiber and 100 m photonic crystal fiber, respectively. The results indic...

Brillouin lasing with a CaF2 whispering gallery mode resonator.

Stimulated Brillouin scattering with both pump and Stokes beams in resonance with whispering gallery modes of an ultrahigh Q calcium fluoride resonator is demonstrated for the first time. The resonator is pumped with 1064 nm light and has 3 muW Brillouin lasing threshold. The scattering is observed due to the unique morphology of the resonator reducing the phase mismatch between the optical mod...

How to improve the quality of output beam of phase conjugation cavity is a problem. In this paper, the output characteristic of compound phase-conjugate resonator with stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) cell was reported. The experimental results indicated it has high output energy and excellent stability. The output energy of the single pulse can reach 90 mJ, and the width of it is about 25...

CHARACTERIZATION OF STIMULATED BRILLOUIN SCATTERING AND Bi-EDFA AS A CONVENTIONAL BRILLOUIN FIBER LASER

Stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS) is one of the nonlinear process that can occur in optical fiber if the input power at low level [1,2]. It is a natural scattering process associate to the propagation of light in a medium. Due to the interaction of light with the propagation medium, different scattering components are generated: Rayleigh, Brillouin and Raman component. The resulting scatter...
